Are American high schools like what there shown as in the media?

No, definitely not. The athletes tend to be more popular, but it isn't like a strict hierarchy....and at my school we don't really have the popular/loser crowds...you have the outcasts, but everyone's pretty chill with each other. Well, except the really stuck up girls, but nobody really likes them anyone except for their friends.
